Environmental Science Capstone Research is a 16-credit, full-time spring program designed for advanced undergraduates—typically seniors, but open to prepared juniors—seeking an intensive, faculty-mentored research experience in the environmental sciences. Students may build on projects begun in prior quarters in areas such as analytical chemistry, marine science, mycology, zoology, or related fields, or they may develop a new project drawing on their coursework and interests. Emphasis is placed on designing and carrying out original research, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting results in written and oral formats appropriate for professional and academic audiences. The program is intended for students who wish to synthesize their academic learning through independent inquiry, gain hands-on research skills, and produce a culminating work that demonstrates readiness for graduate study or professional practice.

Registration
At least one year of college chemistry with labs, one year of college biological sciences with lab or fieldwork, and the ability to work easily with numbers and equations (precalculus or equivalent). Prerequisites will be verified the first day of class.

Students who satisfactorily complete the program requirements will be awarded upper-division science credits.
Students will design their own research projects and carry them out in spring quarter in the program "Environmental Science Capstone Research". Continuing projects from previous programs is possible.
